Title: The Handwritten Provenance of Fore-Edge Paintings

Overview:

Fore-edge paintings have existed for centuries, but what do we really know about these hand-painted works of art? Dr. Wick will talk about his exploration of known fore-edge painting collections and the discovery of handwritten documentation found in the books, sometimes, unbeknownst to collectors.

Presenter:

Since 2007, Dr. Harrison Wick has served as Special Collections Librarian and University Archivist at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He has advanced library and archival access through professional development, rare book and primary-source outreach, major in-house digitization projects, three books on regional history and historic preservation, and research grants from institutions including William & Mary, Duke University, the United States Army Heritage and Education Center, and West Point. Dr. Wick has master’s degrees in history and library science, and a PhD in Administration and Leadership Studies, in which his dissertation was a qualitative study to determine how logistics influenced the Battle of Gettysburg and the outcome of the United States Civil War.
