January 12: Professors Dee Andrews and Christopher Parmenter will discuss a key early document in the abolitionist movement, an essay in Latin by Thomas Clarkson. Their new book is based on the first translation of Based on the first translation of Clarkson’s “An Liceat Invitos in Servitutem Dare” since 1786. (Book Club of California)

January 20: The Rendell Lecture: Meaning and Magic in Handwritten Material In this lecture, Glen Miranker will discuss both the intangible values and the tangible insights that are inherent in some of the holograph manuscripts, letters, notebooks, and marginalia from his collection of Sherlock Holmes material. January 21: Ex Libris collectors rejoice! James P. Keenan will be speaking on "Bookplates: The Art of This Century." The author of several books on the subject, Keenan is the longtime president of the American Society of Bookplate Collectors & Designers (a FABS member!) (The Caxton Club)
January 21: Jeremy Norman of HistoryofScience.com will introduce his Grolier Club exhibition "Incunabula of the Second Printing Revolution" with a discussion of mechanized processes introduced during the 19th century (The Grolier Club)

January 26: Donald C. Jackson will speak about his new book The Man Who Dammed Hetch Hetchy. John R. Freeman was the man who established San Francisco’s Yosemite Water Supply by building a dam that was passionately opposed by John Muir.
