Renowned scholar David Pearson will lecture on findings that culminated in his recent book, Cambridge Bookbinding 1450-1770 (The Legacy Press, 2023). It provides an overview of the development of Cambridge binding through the handpress period, including the evolution of styles and materials, customers, and binders. This illustrated talk will present highlights and new discoveries while considering wider ideas about the ways we study historic bindings, the things we can learn from them, and the questions we should ask.
